The Hinterland: “Managed Wild” at Scale For clients with acreage in the hinterland, the challenge is managing the view.
We specialise in a Managed Wild aesthetic using large-scale plantings that feel like a natural extension of the rainforest.
- Framing the View: We use Livistona australis (Cabbage Tree Palm) and Howea forsteriana (Kentia Palms) to create vertical rhythm without blocking rolling hill vistas.
- Textural Understory: We layer Native Gingers and Lilly Pillies to create a lush, deep-green sanctuary.
- Natural Transitions: We use local basalt boulders and “soft boundaries” of native grasses like Lomandra.
From the Field: A Hinterland Transformation We recently designed a project at New Brighton where the goal was to integrate a modern home with its rainforest surroundings.
The project involved everything from intricate rock-walled pathways to a custom-built fire pit area.
