The Art of Sandstone: Sydney’s Natural Foundation

If you look at the rugged cliffs of the Northern Beaches or the historic facades of the CBD, you see one consistent thread: Sydney Sandstone.

It is a material built into the identity of this region, and at Lone Pine Landscapes, we believe it remains the gold standard for luxury landscaping.

Hand-Chiselled Craftsmanship vs. Mass Production While many contractors opt for pre-cast concrete “stone-look” blocks, we specialise in authentic stone masonry.

Whether it’s a Random Ashlar pattern for the heritage homes of Killara, Wahroonga and Turramurra or tumbled limestone for a crisp, contemporary finish, the tactile nature of real stone is unmistakable.

We use locally sourced Sydney sandstone because it handles our coastal climate, the salt spray, and the intense sun without losing its structural integrity.

More Than Just a Retaining Wall

Sandstone is incredibly versatile. Beyond its use in retaining sloped blocks, we use it to create:

  • Feature Pillars & Entrances: Establishing a sense of arrival and security.
  • Garden Bed Features: We aim to salvage and reuse stone found on site, incorporating it into the design or highlighting existing rock outcrops.
  • Boulders: In our Fairlight project, we used reclaimed sandstone boulders to break up the geometry of the garden, referencing the site’s natural coastal beauty.

From the Field: Delighted in the Detail

“Lone Pine landscaped our pool area with sandstone which wasn’t an easy job as the pool is an extremely odd shape.

We are absolutely delighted with the result… We were so delighted that we hired them again the next year to landscape the front of the house – again using sandstone.” Anne, Sydney Resident
